Happy Friday the 13th! Before I launch into my review of the Bliss Fabulips ‘Pout’-O-Matic Lip-Perfecting System, did you know that tonight is also a full moon? Extra creepy… or lucky depending on how you view it. I’m not very superstitious about numbers, or full moons, but I do think it’s kind of cool that they land on the same day. Did you know this is the only Friday the 13th this year? Here’s a few more ‘fun’ Friday the 13th facts.
Speaking of luck, one area I’m not lucky in is with my lips. It seems like they are constantly dry, chapped and I have a really bad habit of biting them. Lately I have been good with keeping them moisturized and constantly re-applying lip balm throughout the day but I still have a few spots that are chapped or have dead skin. I received the Bliss Fabulips ‘Pout’-O-Matic Lip-Perfecting System for free at Lucky FABB, which I was excited to try as it is a powered lip exfoliation kit perfect for people like me with icky chapped lips.
First, I have to rave about the Fabulips Sugar Lip Scrub, which is included in the kit. The polishing scrub features fine sugar granules along with almond and walnut shells. Unlike other lip scrubs I have tried, this one has a soft grainy yet creamy and balmy texture, which feels like it is exfoliating and moisturizing at the same time. The scrub is scented with a delightfully delicate vanilla-orange fragrance (seriously, this scent is major yum! Too bad it’s not for eating ) and also contains vitamins A, C, and E, along with jojoba seed and olive oils, and shea and cocoa butters to help nourish lips. I am absolutely loving this polishing scrub and how smooth it leaves my lips feeling, with or without the use of the ‘Pout’-O-Matic.
Similar to a teeth cleaning spin brush, the ‘Pout’-O-Matic rotates its rubbery soft nub head, gently massaging the scrub into lips to polish and buffing off dead skin. The kit comes with a battery and one extra replacement heads (trying not to lose that thing—I just have it laying on its own in the medicine cabinet!) and additional replacements are available to purchase.
The device is very easy to use—simply apply the scrub to your lips using your fingers, then use the tool for about 30 seconds on both top and bottom lips. Wipe off scrub and follow up by applying your favorite lip balm to keep lips moisturized.
Does it work? Yes, after using my lips do feel softer and less chapped, but at $48 this is a tool/kit you could do without, as it seems like one more beauty tool taking up limited space in the medicine cabinet that will be easily forgotten. However, I do highly recommend the Fabulips Sugar Lip Scrub ($18) and applying to polish dry, chapped lips once or twice a week.
Enjoy your Friday the 13th!
