My summer hair routine is very low maintenance—I’ll wash it, let it air dry then maybe run my straightener through… or just leave it. Aside from a dab of leave-in conditioner, I rarely use product, but when I do, it’s always a sea salt spray. My hair is mostly straight so getting any kind of wave or curl can be a challenge; sea salt spray is the only thing I have found that works to give my hair those beachy waves—and not all stiff and gunked up with product. Yeah, I totally said gunk.
DIY Sea Salt Spray + Beachy Waves
I decided to make my own DIY Sea Salt Spray, which I think gave better results than my store-bought spray. Beachy waves are a simple style that looks harder to achieve than it really is. Think this sea salt spray is hard to make? No way! Read on for details:
DIY Sea Salt Spray
Ingredients:
1 cup Warm Water
1-2 tbsp Sea Salt
2 tsps Organic Virgin Coconut Oil
Squirt of leave-in conditioner
Dab of hair gel
Optional: Essential oils such as lavender, citrus, etc.
Spray bottle
Add the warm water to your spray bottle and simply mix in all the other ingredients; shake well. You can add in 5-10 drops of your favorite essential oil, however I left mine as is to have that tropical coconut scent. To make it totally natural, leave out the leave-in conditioner and use fresh aloe vera gel instead of hair gel.
Spray on slightly damp towel-dried/air-dried hair and scrunch up the ends. If your hair is pretty straight, you can put into a braid while it dries to help give it waves. Once almost dry, scrunch up some more and twirl strands around your finger to mix up the pieces. Super easy and super cute for summer!
