I don’t eat much turkey at Thanksgiving… I’m all about the sides and desserts… but when I do, I go for the white meat. If your crowd is all about the white meat and you don’t want to deal with cooking an entire turkey, I recommend this herb roasted turkey breast recipe from Ina Garten—it’s so good!
Whether you like your dressing served on the side or stuffed in the turkey, this is a Thanksgiving must-have classic. I recently created a pumpkin cornbread dressing using Trader Joe’s pumpkin croutons and I gotta say, I love it! A mix of sweet and savory, this one is sure to mix things up at your Thanksgiving table.
I don’t see rice casseroles on the table for Thanksgiving much around here, I think it might be more of a Southern thing? In any case, I definitely would not mind a few bites of this Broccoli Wild Rice Casserole from Pioneer Woman with my turkey. I made it last week for dinner (using a boxed wild rice mix- super easy!) and it was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!
If a good homemade sweet potato casserole isn’t on the table, then it just doesn’t feel like Thanksgiving to me. Creamy and sweet, with a crunchy topping, this is definitely my all-time favorite recipe!
Don’t forget the cranberries! Most Thanksgiving meals I have had featured a canned or chutney variety but one year I was served a cranberry orange relish that I still cannot get off my mind. I think this one will hold up well for day-after-Thanksgiving turkey leftover sandwiches.
Last year I made this from scratch pumpkin pie and it turned out absolutely delicious. There’s just something about using fresh roasted pumpkin in lieu of the canned stuff. This year, I’m going to make the crust from scratch as well—my fingers are crossed for another amazing pie!
Drinks are also important for Thanksgiving! I typically drink wine (I go for reds but white works as well!) with the dinner so my Fall Sangriawould be perfect. For cocktails and hors d’oeuvres before the big meal, I highly recommend my Rum Cider Punch, which is basically a fall party in your mouth.
