Review: Nails Inc. Paint Can Spray On Nail Polish

Last week I discovered an innovative new nail polish concept, Nails Inc. Paint Can Spray On Nail Polish… yes, really! The concept is simple– it’s a spray on formula that applies evenly to nails, especially for those on-the-go who need a quick polish change. Pretty cool, right?

I started by applying a clear base coat, let it dry and then began spraying my nails as directed. Luckily I had the foresight to place a piece of paper under my nails before spraying– this stuff is MESSY! The polish also comes out of the can extremely cold– I felt as if I were spray freezing my nails, it was intense. The spray can nail polish does dry rather quickly and as it dried, it became apparent how uneven it applied. I added a second coat to see if I could try to even it out but it didn’t help.

Unfortunately this product just did not deliver for me, which I should have gathered from the negative reviews it has on Sephora.com, but I love new concepts in beauty and just had to check it out. Working in marketing for a cosmetics company, I know how much work goes in to developing innovative new products and I usually just don’t even showcase products I don’t like here on the blog but I had to share this one– it was basically a nightmare process from spraying to the end result.

I was also disappointed by the color– I had purchased Mayfair Lane, a “delicate pale pink” as described at Sephora.com, but it ended up looking like a metallic, silvery nude. Not a bad shade, just not what I was expecting according to the swatch on the website and the shade sticker on the can.

Below is how it looked after adding the top coat, letting it dry, and then removing (well, attempting to remove) the excess polish on my skin with water. And then soap. And then scrubbing… hard. I ended up having to use a cotton ball soaked in nail polish remover to remove all traces of the polish because my fingers started to feel a bit raw from the scrubbing.

The end result was horrendous– after taking these images I immediately removed the polish and re-did my nails with regular polish. Overall, I was disappointed in this product and I would definitely not purchase again. I think I’ll stick to regular ol’ brush on nail polish from now on.
