Highlighters have been having a serious moment and being the highlighter junkie that I am, I couldn’t be more thrilled. While beauty trends, much like fashion trends, can come and go, I think strobing is around to stay. At least for awhile. There are so many unique and gorgeous highlighters out that you can use to get the strobing look, not to mention so many different types of formulas from liquids to powders. So many in fact that it can be challenging to figure out what really is the best and how to best use them.
Luckily I’m here to break it all down for you. Keep reading to get the low down on my must-have highlighters to get the best glow>>
DEWY FOUNDATION
Technically not a highlighter I still wanted to include a foundation in this post because I think if you’re going for a super glowy look, you must start with a glowing base. My foundation pick is Physicians Formula Touch Of Glow Foundation, which is lightweight, yet covers extremely well, blends easily and evenly and gives my skin a dewy finish, creating the perfect base to lay my highlight.
LIQUID ILLUMINATOR
After applying your base, you can apply a liquid illuminator to cheekbones, under brow bone, and on the décolletage to get a pretty, natural-looking glow. Or, you can even mix a couple drops of liquid illuminator to your foundation before applying to get a subtle, all over glow. I’ve been using NYX Cosmetics Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator in Sunbeam, which is a pretty pearly soft pink.
CREAM-TO-POWDER HIGHLIGHTER
Cream-to-powder formulas are buildable and extremely blendable which allows for a subtle, soft highlight, or a full on strobe. Right now I have been using ColourPop Super Shock Cheek in Lunch Money pretty much non-stop. It is so creamy soft and gives a gorgeous pop of highlight on my cheeks.
CREAM STICK ILLUMINATOR
One of the easiest highlighting products to use is a creamy stick illuminator, such as It Cosmetics Hello Light Anti-Aging Luminizing Creme Stick. Just swipe, then blend with your fingers to soften and you’re good to go!
POWDER HIGHLIGHTER
I have to say that powder highlighters are typically my go-tos, especially the Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection. The best way to apply is either with a soft fan brush, or with a duo-fiber stipling brush to dust over the areas you want to highlight. Most of the time I use either a liquid or cream stick highlighter and then dust powder highlight over– total glow-worthy!
