I find that Glossier’s motto of ‘skin first, makeup second’ holds so true. Yes, you can cover up blemishes and imperfections with makeup, but in the long run, that’s not going to help and, depending on the products you use, can actually make those skin problems worse. Glossier, created by Emily Weiss of Into the Gloss (and yes, super intern Emily on The Hills!), believes that you need to take care of your skin first and offer all four of these products in their not-so-basic _Glossier Phase 1 Set.
Keep reading below to get my thoughts on this line and if it lives up to it’s hype…
I started with the Milk Jelly Cleanser, which has a milky, jelly-like texture. While I love how soft and smooth it makes my face, it didn’t work great for me as a makeup remover. I tried using it at night before bed and a lot of makeup was still on, so I’m now just using this as my morning cleanser. Aside from leaving my skin silky soft, I love how gentle it is. Some of the ingredients in the cleanser are rosewater to soothe skin,; Comfrey Root Extract which contains healing allantoin, helping to prevent stress on skin; and Pro-Vitamin B5 as a natural moisturizer. Overall I am impressed with this cleanser and would definitely buy again.
The next step in the routine is to apply the Priming Moisturizer. I really wanted to like this, however my skin gets pretty dry and this just was not hydrating enough for me. Also, it would make my skin a little red after applying. If you don’t have dry skin like me, I think this would work a lot better on normal or oily skin. This product features an antioxidant blend of Vitamins A, C, and E to help protect against skin cell damage ; Hyaluronic Acid, which gives that cushiony effect through mega hydration; and an anti-redness complex made with soothing honey and tea to reduce inflammation. I don’t think that anti-redness complex was working much for me though.
When I first opened the Perfecting Skin Tint, I was so sure I was going to hate it. It has a watery, runny texture, it was so lightweight I didn’t think it was going to cover, and the shade seemed on the light side for me. I will suck it up and admit it- I was totally 100% wrong. This skin tint may not provide a lot of coverage, but it evens out my skin perfectly and it’s lightweight enough to wear on those no-makeup kind of days. The skin tint features Diamond Powder to give a brightening, blurring, and pore-minimizing effect; Glycerin to help skin attract and retain moisture; and Polymer, which gives an ever-so-slight lifted look to the face. This one is a winner for sure!
Another winner for me is Balm Dotcom, a universal skin salve that can be used on hands, super dry areas, cuticles and on lips, which is what I use it most on. The salve applies clear and is thicker than a gloss- almost like petroleum jelly. It’s been helping my poor dry lips out SO much! This product features Beeswax, a natural emollient which acts as a protective barrier; Cupuacu Fruit Extract
an organic, long-lasting moisturizer with Omega-6 and Omega-9 fatty acids that melts into skin on contact; and Rice Bran & Rosemary Leaf Extracts, both of which are antioxidants to combat free-radical skin damage. I find that this product stays on my lips really well, usually until I eat or drink. It’s a good lip product to keep in your bag so you can re-apply throughout the day and get those lips smootchie soft.
Oh, and before I forget to mention, all Glossier products are cruelty-free, paraben-free, and sulfate-free, yay! You can buy this kit and more at Glossier.com
