I have a confession to make: I have a drawer FILLED with lip products that I rarely wear. Somehow I have managed to collect several dozen lipsticks, lip glosses, liquid lips, you name it over the last several years- some I’ve bought, some I’ve received for review and some I found in gift bags. I actually ended up going through the drawer last week and got rid of old products and gave away ones that I never wear. It’s a little lighter but I could definitely go over a month without wearing the same one!
I have been making an effort to wear more lip colors on the daily though and the lippie I’ve been wearing lately is the new Hourglass Confession Ultra Slim High Intensity Refillable Lipstick. Continue reading for my review and tips on how to wear this slim-tubed lip product:
When opening the box, I was immediately impressed with the super chic ultra-slim packaging, it’s very reminiscent of a vintage cigarette holder– long and sleek. The applicator is actually refillable, once you finish the actual product, you can buy a new lipstick refill (yes, at a lower price than the full component) to pop into the holder, kind of neat right? The component design gives it a high-end, luxurious look and would definitely garner compliments when you pull it out of your bag.
The lipstick formula itself is incredibly creamy and smooth, gliding across lips seamlessly applying color without pulling. It gives a satin finish, which is a nice reprieve from some of the more drying matte lipsticks I wear. I received the shade ‘I Wish’, a true neutral nude lip shade. I typically gravitate to more pink nudes so I’m not sure if I totally love this shade with my skin tone but I do love that they have a true nude like this. I think this type of shade pairs beautifully with a soft smokey eye. It is very pigmented and provides rich, full color and is fairly long-wearing, although I did have to reapply after eating and drinking.
While the overall quality of this lipstick is wonderful, it is on the pricier side. The full packaging version is $34 and each refill is $22, which I think is pricey for just 0.03 oz. of product. I feel like I can find comparable lipsticks for a better value, however if you’re into super sleek products, this may be just right for you.
