Holy guacamole, did August fly by or what?! Unfortunately for us, our air conditioner kept breaking down most of the month. A working AC is a must, especially when you live in Southern California during summer and amidst a heat wave. I tend to keep my makeup at a minimum when the heat hits but being the beauty lover I am I can’t forgo it completely. Keep reading to get the deets on my August makeup and beauty must-haves>>
I’ve been reaching for Physicians Formula 80th Anniversary Collection Eyeshadow Quad in Classic Nudes on the days I want to play my eyes up. The palette contains four pigmented shadow shades, two of which are matte and two shimmers. While the shimmers are gorgeous and look stunning when applied wet, I’ve been doing heart eyes at the two matte shades. The lightest shade is the most perfect nude beige base while the darker is a reddish brown and simply gorgeous. All shades blend beautifully and easily. Paired together they create a perfect everyday nude eye, and the added gold shimmer gives it that extra somethin’-somethin’!
Okay, I know I’ve featured this product in my beauty faves before but this one is SO good that I have to give it another mention. The It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream has totally been my face staple all summer long. The color-correcting cream not only evens out skin but is super lightweight, making it perfect for those hot days when you want a little coverage but nothing thick. It also has an SPF of 50 to protect skin from UVA/UVB rays. The cream contains hyalauronic acid, hydrolyzed collagen, vitamins and antioxidants for a dose of anti-aging and skin care. I’ve received many compliments that I don’t look my age and I have to hand some of that credit over to this CC cream! I’ve tried several CCs, BBs, and foundations and I always come back to this.
If you’ve read any of my beauty posts before you know that I am constantly complaining about having dry lips. In the morning after showering they can be especially dry so I’ve started applying the Pixi Nourishing Lip Polish (gifted). I let it sit on my lips and do its thang while I apply the rest of my makeup. The polish is infused with shea butter, almond, apricot and primrose oils to moisturize lips. It also features a bumpy applicator tip that exfoliates and massages the polish into lips. This has become part of my a.m. beauty routine and leaves my lips feeling hydrated. I highly recommend this lip polish, especially if you have dry lips like me.
For bargain beauty hunters, at under $5 the Wet n Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder just can’t be beat! The color is gorgeous and the payoff is amazing. The powder itself is soft and finely-milled so that it swipes on and blends into skin beautifully. This highlighter is so impressive! Plus, the price makes my wallet do the happy dance. I have the shade ‘Crown of My Canopy, a gold-peach shade that is beautiful for summer. I think it looks gorgeous on tanned skin. Apply using a fan brush for a soft and natural highlighted look or pack it on for a full on glow!
I know everyone is on the ABH brow train but my fave brow products are from Billion Dollar Brows, which I’ve been using for years. The company started as a brow bar in Beverly Hills and then launched their own line of brow products. I use the Brow Butter Pomade Kit to fill in brows and darken them a bit (shh!). The included mini dual-tipped angle brush and spoolie makes applying and blending super easy.
My ride-or-die brow highlight is the BDB Brow Duo Pencil. This duo is a MUST and is my secret weapon to having good looking brows all. the. time. One end of the duo has a perfect matte nude pink highlight shade that you can apply to your browbone to highlight & help shape or above the brow to make them pop (and give an instant eye lift!). The formula is super creamy and blends easily. I also like that it covers any pesky overgrown hairs. The other end has a concealer to cover up redness or blemishes around the brows– I even use it under my eyes and around my nose.
