Let’s talk concealers. For me, concealer is a must-have product, even more so than foundation. In fact, I’ll often forgo foundation completely and just use concealer to create an even complexion. For me, my number one formula has to provide excellent coverage to cover any dark under eye circles (c’mon, we all have ’em), redness and any blemishes. I also like my concealer to provide additional benefits such as skin care or SPF protection. Keep reading to find out which concealer tops my best list… and which is the worst>>
I have seen a lot of buzz on the Tarte Double Duty Beauty Shape Tape Contour Concealer and can see why it’s so loved. However, while the coverage under the eyes is good, I don’t find that this one covers redness or blemishes well, although they do work well to sculpt and highlight with. I love that it has an oversized wand and the formula itself blends out nicely and evenly. The formula contains the Amazonian clay and conditioning properties such as mango seed and shea butter.
I was surprised at how well the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer covers and find that it’s a good everyday concealer that you can apply, blend in and go. It’s not thick either so it won’t feel cakey or like you’re wearing too much. I use the FaceStudio Master Conceal ($9) to highlight and contour with, which give me a nice, natural contoured look. I use a lighter shade to highlight with and a shade that’s a few shades darker to contour with. These blend easily and have a natural-looking finish, however the coverage is on the lighter side so I don’t recommend them if you have very dark circles.
The Morphe Concealer ($5) is a medium to full coverage concealer with a matte finish. It delivers good coverage and blends in nicely and evenly. I like that it has a sponge tip applicator, making it easy to dot along where needed.
The NYX HD Photo Concealer Wand ($5) is the concealer that disappointed me the most. I’ve raved about NYX products on here in the past (especially the lip products) but his just wasn’t up to par. The formula is runny and doesn’t cover well at all. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this product.
I have been loving the It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Anti-Aging Concealer ($24)under my eyes– it is a full-coverage concealer that provides really good coverage for under eye circles, along with any redness and blemishes. I also like that it has anti-aging properties such as hydrolyzed collagen, hyaluronic acid and peptides. The price is comparable to that of other prestige brands and I do think it is worth it for this amazing working concealer. I do wish that it contained SPF, if it did it would be vying for the number one spot on my list.
My top pick is the Physicians Formula #InstaReady Full Coverage Concealer ($11). This concealer does it all– covers blemishes, dark under-eye circles, and even contains SPF 30 to help protect skin. I find that this one has the best coverage, but is still light-weight so that it blends easily without looking cakey. At just over $10, the price is right, especially for a product that works this well. It also comes with a mini blending sponge, which is helpful when blending under the eyes or in crevices around the nose. Some days I’ll forgo foundation and will lightly blend this all over my entire face. I would say the only con is that it is only available in three shades (Fair, Light and Medium) so darker skin tones will have challenges finding a match.

Ooh great review! What is your skin type? Dry? Oily? I have pretty oily skin – how do these picks do with skin types?
love,
Britt+Whit
My skin is normal-dry so concealers tend to stay on my skin well, even without a primer. I find that the It Cosmetics, Physicians Formula and Tarte have the best staying power so I feel like those would be best for oily skin types. Also, for oily skin, I definitely recommend using a primer beforehand and then setting with a mattifying powder to help the longevity. Thanks for reading!
I swear by the IT cosmetics concealer for under my eyes! But i’ll check out your other recommendations!
I use the maybelline better skin concealer and swear by it! it has great coverage and looks great too!

I’m a big fan of NYX lip products, really surprised by the concealer consistency!
IT cosmetics bye bye under eye is my go to. Great post!
My fav canceler is Nars. It works for under eye and covering up uneven skin tone. It’s my fav to wear alone on the weekends when I need a little boost!

I recently bought the tarte concealer (online) so I’m excited to see how it works. I love the It cosmetics under eye, it really does amazing coverage for my under eyes, I haven’t tried it for concealing anything else yet. The Maybelline Fit Me Concealer is always in my bag, it’s great for on the go and works easily with my fingers. This is a great post, I love hearing others opinions on products I love.
I’ve heard so much about the Tarte Shape Tape but it isn’t available here in Malaysia yet! 🙁 I haven’t tried any of these, but my current favourite concealer is from a Korean brand, called the The SAEM Cover Perfection Tip Concealer. It’s so affordable, and works so well on the undereyes and blemishes! It’s high coverage and super creamy! If you’re looking for a new concealer to try, it’s a good one 🙂 It’s only ~$6. I need to try out the Physician’s Formula concealer too, it sounds amazing!
Ooh I love how in depth this review of various concealers is! Definitely going to refer back to this next time I’m makeup shopping.
My girlfriend swears by the Shape Tape and I’ve loved it every time I’ve used hers! I’ll have to pick up the Fit concealer next time I’m at Target!

Ah! This is such a great post! I know which one I’m going to try next, thanks girl!
I don’t typically use concealer, but I definitely want to try out that shape tape! I’m currently using the Sephora Make No Mistake Foundation that also doubles as a concealer and it works really well!
