Would you believe I scored this gorgeous maxi at a sample sale? I’ve recently fallen in love with a local boutique called Morning Lavender. They have the prettiest, feminine dresses and clothing, cute accessories AND they even have a cafe inside, offering lavender lattes, rose milk tea and afternoon tea service complete with finger sandwiches and petite desserts. It’s the absolute cutest! They recently held a warehouse sale and I picked up a few items, including this dress at a nice discount– score!
This maxi is comfy, and I love the open front– it’s nice and breezy on those hot days. It’s the perfect pairing for this season’s must-have straw bag.
How To Find the Right Maxi Dress for Your Body Type
All maxis were not created equal and certain styles certainly look best on certain figures and body types. Here’s a quick guide on choosing the right maxi for your body shape:
RECTANGULAR (straight; not curvy)
Choosing an empire cut will help create a defined waist a To create the illusion of a bigger bust, opt for deep necklines or ruched necklines.
APPLE (broad shoulders, narrow hips, not defined waist)
Wrap style maxis are perfect for apple body shapes as they help to define the waistline. Avoid ruffles and pleats and instead opt for simple styles. Opt for styles that accentuate your bust area. Choose an empire dress to help slenderize your lower half, you can also add a belt to your maxi to give the illusion of a more defined wasitline. Bold, eye-catching prints are best for apples!
PEAR (full hips, waist is wider than bust)
Strapless, thin-strapped and bust-enhancing necklines help accentuate your bust area, while a flared skirt helps cover wider hips. Color blocking works well– opt for a dress with a lighter colored top and a darker colored bottom.
HOURGLASS (curvy, fuller bust and hip, well-defined waist)
Flaunt those curves! Choose a waisted style or add a belt to show off a defined waistline and opt for soft fabrics that gently drape over your body, which will add movement when you walk. Steer clear of more straight styles that are not flattering to your figure.
If you are on the petite side (I’m only 5’4″ so I feel ya, shorties!) opt for maxis that are no longer than your ankles. I prefer midi lengths myself and I love that this particular dress is a mix of both midi and maxi and the tie at the waist helps to add length to my legs. Solid colors and smaller prints are best for petite frames.
