Where did this summer go?!? Since there’s technically a few weeks left of summer (and then some if you live in a warmer area!) for a good poolside or beach read, I thought I’d share a few books I’ve read and loved over the last couple months… and a few on my reading list. Here’s what I’ve been reading>>
Must-Reads
The Wedding Party– Jasmine Guillory
If you’ve read and loved Jasmine Guillory’s The Wedding Date and The Proposal then The Wedding Party is an absolute must. Even if you haven’t read the two prior books, this is definitely one to read over the long weekend. Book #3 in the series follows Maddie and Theo, two of Alexa’s friends who basically hated each other until one accidental steamy kiss leads to more. Even though they are both in Alexa’s wedding party, they keep their trysts a secret from her… and while they agree to keep things casual, complications and feelings, start to arise. The engaging story line and steamy sex scenes will have you hooked!
Turn of the Key– Ruth Ware
I love a good page turner and this one kept me wanting more. Rowan Caine comes across an ad for a live-in nanny position at Heatherbrae House, a gorgeous modern smart home in the Scottish hills. Unfortunately what seemed like the perfect job in the perfect house becomes a nightmare when one child ends up dead and she in prison.
I love how the book is told through letters Rowan writes to her lawyer from prison, explaining the events that led to her incarceration. If you love a good mystery and stories with a good twist, you’ll have a hard time putting this book down.
An Anonymous Girl: A Novel – Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen
If psychological thrillers are more your speed, this book should be on your weekend reading list. The main character Jessica is a makeup artist looking for some extra cash and comes across an opportunity to sign up for an ethics and morality study conducted by the mysterious Dr. Shields. While she’s hoping to just answer a few questions, make her money and leave, the questions become more intense and the doctor even has her conduct a few ‘outside’ experiments. From the overview, ‘as Jess’s paranoia grows, it becomes clear that she can no longer trust what in her life is real, and what is one of Dr. Shields’ manipulative experiments. Caught in a web of deceit and jealousy, Jess quickly learns that some obsessions can be deadly.’
If you loved The Wife Between Us, this one will definitely pique your interest!
On My Reading List
The Unhoneymooners– Christina Lauren
The story centers on Olive Torres whose twin, Ami, is getting married to Dean and basically won her entire wedding through a contest. The seafood buffet ends up causing food poisoning to everyone except Olive and best man Ethan. Since Ami & Dean won’t be able to make it to their Maui honeymoon, they talk Olive & Ethan (who hate each other) to take the trip together. While on the trip they discover they really do like each other– but it’s not all pineapples and rainbows. We’ll be heading on our belated honeymoon to Hawaii so this is the perfect book to get me in the mood!
Next Level Basic – Stassi Shroeder
From the overview: ‘Millions of Vanderpump Rules viewers and podcast listeners know Stassi Schroeder as a major defender of Basic Bitch rights. There’s nothing more boring than people who take themselves too seriously or think that you have to be pretentious to be cool. Stassi champions the things that many of us are afraid to love publicly for fear of being labeled basic: lattes, pugs, bubbly cocktails, millennial pink, #OOTD (outfit of the day, obvs), astrology, hot dogs, the perfect pair of Louboutins, romantic comedies…the list goes on and on.’
I’m not the celebrity fangirl type but Stassi is my all-time favorite reality TV personality so I can’t wait to dig into this. Girl has style, smarts, wit and one of the best #basicbitches ever. I highly recommend her podcast Straight Up with Stassi as well!
Verity– Colleen Hover
In a nutshell, struggling writer Lowen is hired to complete the remaining books in Verity Crawford (who is severely injured) contract While sorting through Verity’s notes and outlines Lowen uncovers a chilling autobiography written by Verity and filled with horrifying secrets that could devastate Jeremy, Verity’s husband… and put Lowen’s life at risk.
I first heard of this sexy thriller from another podcast I listen to- Bad on Paper (book lovers– you NEED to listen to this one!) and it received rave reviews. I’ve had Verity in my Kindle app for a couple months now– I’m sure it will be my next page-turner for sure!
