All-Year Sun Protection with COOLA

When it comes to sun protections, summer isn’t the only time you should be breaking out the SPF. It’s important to protect the skin year round, especially if you live in a sunnier climate.  Just because the temperatures are down, it doesn’t mean you can’t get burned! COOLA is a brand that I routinely reach for when it comes to sun care– both in terms of sunscreen and also safe self-tanning products.

Cover Up! 

Let’s first chat sun protection and sunscreens. I’ve been using COOLA sunscreens for the past few years. They offer both classic (chemical) and mineral sunscreens, and offer broad spectrum protection and all are reef-friendly. I love how easy the spray sunscreens are to use– they’re perfect for throwing in my beach bag for on-the-go. 

These aren’t your typical, stinky sunscreens– COOLA offers fun scents such as Pina Colada, Guava Mango and even have  fragrance-free options. The continuous sprays are both sweat and water-proof and are packed with good-for-skin healthy ingredients! Red raspberry seed oil softens and smoothes wrinkles, aloe vera hydrates and soothes the skin, and algae extract detoxifies and replenishes skin. 

While I use the continuous spray on my body, I use the COOLA Face Sunscreen Lotion, which offers SPF 50. When I know I’ll be outside, I always wear at least SPF 50 on my face to protect from the harmful sun ways. 

Fake It ‘Til You Make It! 

Don’t get me wrong… I love a good tan but my bronzed skin is usually of the spray tan and self-tan varieties. COOLA provides some of my favorite sunless tanning products so I can get perfectly tanned skin without baking under the sun. You can read all my safe tanning tips here. 

One of my go-to’s year round is the Sunless Tan Firming Lotion— not only is it an organic gradual tanner, but it has pea extract, green natural caffeine and brown algae extract to help improve elasticity and firm the skin. I tend to use this product most in-between spray tans to help my tan last longer… or if I need a subtle healthy glow! 

If I’m looking for a deeper tan, I’ll use the Organic Sunless Tan Luminizing Body Serum. This helps build up my tan while illuminating my skin. What’s really cool is that you can add this serum into your everyday lotion if you prefer a softer tan.

The coloring comes from Sugar Beet- a natural tanning ingredient giving a very natural-looking and does not look orange. The formula contains shea butter to moisturize skin along with Baobab seed oil, which is packed with vitamins A, D and E and helps protect skin from free radicals and sun damage. A tanner that’s actually GOOD for you?!? Yes! 

Beauty UV

Did you know that in addition to sunscreens and self-tanners that COOLAoffers a beauty line as well? Their Beauty UV collection offers an array of lip and face products to stay looking gorgeous while protected all day long! 

The Rosilliance Mineral BB+ Cream is a skin tint with SPF 30 to even out skin tone PLUS protect skin from harmful rays. I’m picky when it comes to my foundations and I am very impressed with this one!  It has decent coverage– I often get redness on my cheeks and it covered well, evening my skin out. If you have acne scars or deeper blemishes, it may not provide the coverage you need. I like that the coverage is sheer so I can look like I’m not really wearing any face makeup. The only con is that the shade selection is limited; for reference, I wear Light/Medium. However, since the product is very lightweight so each shade can be used for a variety of skin tones.

As does all COOLA products, this formula contains  good-for-skin ingredients such as rose stem cells to provide nutrients, hydrate, protect, and promote skin cell health. It also contains açaí fruit oil, which is high in antioxidants. The addition of plankton extract enhances the complexion and covers blemishes and dark spots. 

COOLA recently launched a Full Spectrum 360° line which not only protects against UVA/UVB rays but bluelight (HEV light- high-energy visible light), infrared light and environmental aggressors such as pollution as well. I can’t wait to try this out! I foresee that we’ll be seeing a big trend in beauty with these types of products.

Lip Love

For lips, I’ve been reaching for the Mineral Liplux Organic Tinted Lip Balm (classic non-tinted version available as well!). These balms are super moisturizing, have SPF 30 to protect lips and add just a hint of color to lips. They have a unique blend of mongongo oil, coconut oil and shea butter and come in 8 rosy-hued shades. They are definitely great to have handy in your purse anytime you’re outside or need a quick hit of color!
