Summer is here and I am especially excited to dive into the perfect summer beach read! There’s just nothing like a day laying out by the pool or in the sand with a book in hand. I’m rounding up 5 books that provide the perfect summer escape– from a contemporary epic road trip to a historical WWII love story that you won’t be able to tear yourself away from.
Here’s what’s on my summer beach read list>>
The Summer Seekers
If you’re on the hunt for something lighter but heavy on adventure, The Summer Seekers by Sarah Morgan should be added to the top of your tbr list. This fun and witty story centers on Kathleen, an 80-year-old widow who is looking for a little adventure. Her sensible daughter, Liza, would much rather her mother settle down into a safe retirement home rather than jet-setting around. Meanwhile, 24-year-old Martha is a divorcee living back at home with her parents. She comes across Kathleen’s advertisement for a driver and figures she has nothing left to lose. Cue the road trip of a lifetime…
The book weaves comedy with heartfelt emotion together effortlessly and will have you rooting for all the characters. It’s the perfect read to get swept up in while taking in the summer sunshine.
The Warsaw Orphan
The Warsaw Orphan by Kelly Rimmer tells the story of Elzbieta, a 14-year-old who lives in Nazi-occupied Warsaw during World War II in 1942. Witnessing firsthand the horros and brutality imparted by the Nazis, she and her neighbor Sara begin smuggling Jewish children out of the Polish ghetto. She meets and falls in love with Roman, a Jewish teen whose family must grapple with life-changing decisions in order to survive.
If you love historical fiction novels, this is a must read. The emotional, gripping story will immediately pull you in to this journey of love, humanity and growing up in a war-torn world.
Lady Sunshine
If you love books from Elin Hilderbrand, Robyn Carr and Taylor Jenkins Reed, Lady Sunshine by Amy Madon Doan is sure to give you all the summer vibes. The story starts with teen Jackie visiting her uncle’s California coast mansion, The Sandcastle, during the summer of 1979. Her folk singer uncle Graham plays host to a myriad of musicians, free spirits, artists and the like opening Jackie’s world to new ideas and people. She becomes close to her cousin Willa and the two become inseparable. That is, until tragedy strikes.
Twenty years later, Jackie has inherited The Sandcastle upon her uncle and aunt’s deaths with the intent to sell it. However, a music producer wants to record a tribute album of her uncle’s songs at the estate. Jackie’s stay is extended forcing her to confront the secrets of the past. This book weaves together lyrical writing with the music of 1970’s California and family drama. It certainly envokes memories of carefree summer days and will be the soundtrack to your summer!
The Stepsisters
Another summer hit from New York Time’s Best-Selling author Susan Mallery, The Stepsisters focuses on the relationship between stepsisters Daisy and Sage, along with their half-sister Cassidy. After their parents marry, Daisy and Sage have a love-hate relationship. Sage being the beautiful, popular one and Daisy being the smart one. Their parents ended up divorcing and the stepsisters’ rivalry continued, culminating in Daisy marrying Sage’s high school sweetheart.
Almost two decades later, their half-sister Cassidy is involved in a climbing accident and both are called in for support. Daisy and Sage agree to put differences aside and call a truce. However, will uncovered secrets and careless acts have them at odds once more? Pull out your beach blanket and get ready to dive in to this engrossing tale of family drama with a twist of romance!
The Secret Keeper of Jaipur

Ooooh I don’t have any of these on my list at the moment, and I am honestly adding so many books to the list. My friend and I are giving away 4 kindles on my IG, and we asked people to put book recommendations there and they’re going nuts with so many good ones!
Love these suggestions!! I’ve got the audio for The Secret Keeper of Jaipur and can’t wait to get to it. The Stepsisters also sounds so intriguing.
I love a good beach read! Will have to check these out. Thanks for the recs!
