When it comes to mascara, the choices can be overwhelming. There are mascaras for length, volume, lifting, curling, waterproof, non-waterproof, smudge-proof, black or carbon black… the possibilities are almost endless! This week I’m sharing my review on three mascara formulas… which one was my top pick? Continue reading to find out!
MAC Magic Extension 5mm Fibre Mascara
The MAC Magic Extension Mascara ($25) is a lengthening formula that is infused with 5mm-long fibers to create long, faux-looking lashes. The tapered bristle brush helps to comb fibers through to elongate.
This formula is infused with crystal elixir powder for an intense carbon-black color as well as olive oil to condition lashes.
I wanted to love this mascara because it really does add some impressive length to lashes. However, if I attempted to apply more than one coat, my lashes would start to clump together. I do like the intense black pigment and the tapered brush works well for depositing the fibers onto lashes.
Physicians Formula Butter Blowout Mascara
The Physicians Formula Butter Blowout Mascara ($10) provides full volume and length to lashes. It has a buildable formula so you can build up lashes without them looking clumpy. It is infused with keratin to strengthen lashes along with essential fatty acids and pro-vitamins to nourish. I’m a fan of larger bristle brushes so this round brush is right up my alley! I like that it has a tight swiper that provides just the right amount of formula when pulling out of the tube.
I really love how this formula builds up my lashes to look full, while also adding length while staying lightweight. The length isn’t as intense as the MAC option however, but I’m more into the full lash look rather than long lashes. For $10 this mascara is a steal and is super underrated. It does have a tropical fragrance but it is not irritating to me eyes, some may not be a fan of the scent.
Buxom XTROVERT Lifting Mascara
The Buxom XTROVERT Lifting Mascara ($22) is designed to lifts and lengthen lashes. It has this neat, x-shaped nylon wand to deposit formula onto lashes. I think the brush does a great job at pulling the formula through lashes and not leaving them clumpy. The formula is on the drier side, which I prefer to ‘wet-looking’ mascaras.
I’m not so sure how lifted my lashes look but they do appear longer and more volumized. I think this is a really great formula and is a good option for anyone looking for full lashes!
My top pick? Butter Blowout! This affordable mascara provides volume and length without looking clumpy. Love how my lashes look with this mascara!

I’m so picky when it comes to mascara because I have very sparse and short lashes. I like something that provides volume more than length, but I think the PF formula would be wonderful! I might have to pick that one up soon!
Mascara is probably one of my favorite beauty products and the one I’ll always wear over anything else! I’m all about the dramatic lashes and I’m so surprised I haven’t tried these ones yet! I’ll have to check them out!!
