I’m all about the summer bronzed glow but tend to shy away from damaging sun rays. Instead I opt for a faux glow using self-tanner products. There’s a lot of myths about self-tanners: they leave you orange, they look streaky and they smell. But, if you have the right products, your self-tan can be perfect! This week, I’m sharing a full review on Bali Body and my tips for getting that gorgeous glow.

Pre-Tan Tips
Just as you would for a spray tan, you need to prep skin before using self-tanner. Don’t skip this! Be sure to do the following before applying your self-tan products:
Exfoliate– Use a good quality exfoliant to smooth skin and remove any dead, dry skin. Self-tanner tends to sink into dry skin and can look patchy and uneven. Be sure to use oil-free exfoliators and cleansers so the tanner can adhere properly. You can also use a washcloth to help exfoliate as well.
Shave/ Wax– Any hair removal should be done prior to applying tanner as this can shorten the life of your tan.
Moisturize– After cleansing and toweling off, apply body lotion or moisturizer to the dry parts of your body such as knees, elbows, hands and feet, especially heels. These areas tend to absorb more of the tanner and doing this will create a barrier to ensure your tan stays even.
Self-Tanning Mousse
For an all-over tan, I use the Bali Body Self-Tanning Mousse. It’s super lightweight, easy to apply and provides a very natural-looking tan glow. It contains beneficial skin ingredients such as antioxidant-rich coffee seed extract, pomegranate extract to rejuvenate skin and chamomile extract to soothe skin.
The result is a tan that lasts almost a week and does not look streaky. The mousse massages into skin nicely and looks natural. There is no funky tanner smell, in fact, it has a nice soft scent. I have tried many self-tanners and this one has become a favorite!
I find that using a tanning mitt is a must to achieve optimum results. Not only does the mitt protect your hands, it makes the application process so easy. I start by applying to my legs first and working my way up. The mitt makes it easier to reach harder-to-reach areas such as my back. I make sure to cover every inch- even underarms and in-between fingers and toes. For best results, let your tan dry fully before dressing.
If you have an oops moment, you can use a makeup remover wipe or baby wipe to clean up. These are great for cleaning hands and removing tanner from cuticles and nails. It’s best to not shower, sweat or go in the pool for 6-8 hours so your tan can fully develop.
The Self-Tanning Mousse is one of Bali Body’s best-sellers and it’s easy to see why! This vegan formula contains 100% natural DHA and is enriched with nourishing oils to smooth and hydrate skin. It blends into skin beautifully providing even coverage and color. I love that it doesn’t look orange, just a natural bronzed tan. This tanner is well worth the price for a gorgeous tan glow that you can achieve at home!
Gradual Tan
To extend the life of my self-tan, I apply the Bali Body Gradual Tan. This moisturizing body lotion contains tanner to subtly tan skin over time. I like using it in-between self-tanning sessions to keep my tan going but it can also be used on its own.
This hydrating tan lotion is enriched with coconut oil, firming coffee seed extract and cocoa butter so skin stays moisturized all day long. This can be applied daily to build up to your desired tan. It’s a much more subtle tan than the mousse.
I love how smooth my skin feels after applying this! It does not look orange and like the mousse, this does not have an off-putting scent. I highly recommend using this if you want a more subtle tan glow of if you’re looking to extend your self-tan.
Tanning Oil Glow
If you are looking for a natural suntan, be sure to include the Bali Body Watermelon Sun Tanning Oil into your sun tan routine. This tanning oil is super lightweight and has a sweet watermelon scent, total summer vibes! This tanning oil allows you to get a deep, natural sun tan while protecting with SPF.
The sun tan oil contains watermelon seed extract to naturally stimulate the production of melanin to give skin a deeper tan. Grape seed and coconut oils hydrate the skin to give it a beautiful sheen. If you are heading out on vacation or laying out to get some sun, this is a must to help develop a nice all-over tan.
Tanning oils are not self-tanners so you will not see an immediate tan– they work with the sun to produce melanin and help your skin look darker. I like that this offers SPF to help protect skin from UVA/UVB rays. Proof that you can practice safe sun care while also achieving that gorgeous summer bronzed glow!

I love a good self tanner and swear by my tried and true. This one sounds promising! xoxo, Sarah
I just self-tanned for the first time this summer LAST NIGHT. So how crazy that I’m reading this today. So far, I’ve only tried one brand of self-tanner over the years, but I’ve heard amazing things about Bali Body. I’ll have to give them a go at some point. Sounds like a great line of products!
Ooo i need to try this! I love how natural it looks. I don’t use them often but I could definitely use some color LOL!
