Plaid is to fall what florals are to spring, not exactly groundbreaking but a total style must-have. Wearing a flannel or plaid shirt can either look super cute… or, unfortunately, like a lumberjack. If you want to avoid the latter, pick a plaid with a softer color pattern and change up the way you style it. Here’s a few different ways to style a plaid shirt>>
Open
For super casual vibes, I like to wear my shirt unbuttoned and loose over a tee or crop. This is especially perfect for warmer fall days.
Knotted
Give your loose, unbuttoned flannel shirt some pizazz with a cute knot above the waist!
Buttoned Up
Perfect for those chilly fall days, I love the look of these shirts buttoned up. Keeping the top 2 buttons open keeps the flannel looking chic.
Tied Around the Waist
Too warm to wear flannel? Tie it around your waist! Keeps the shirt handy for when it does cool down. Every item linked in this post is affordable!

I love all the ways you styled the shirt! So cute!
I’m a sucker for a good plaid button-up! I love the one you picked out. I typically button and then do a French tuck – but I’ve totally wrapped them around my waist before too. Great ideas!
That’s a perfect analogy – plaid is definitely fall’s floral! Haha. I’m not usually a huge plaid fan, but I do love to wear one around my waist every now and then. This one is really cute! I love the lighter color.
