We tend to make our own self care and wellness a priority, especially during the winter months, so it makes sense to prioritize our pet’s wellbeing too, right? We have Georgia, our seven-year-old German Shepherd and our cats, Scooter (seven) and Knickers (two). Like parents, I can go on and on about our pets all day long! Pictures? I have a phone full of ’em! Our pets are part of the family and we want to make sure they are well taken care of and stay healthy throughout their lives. I’m rounding up a few pet care and wellness essentials that will keep your pet happy all winter long!

Healthy Pets are Happy Pets
My pets love their treats and I like to make sure they are getting some sort of health benefit from them. As a large breed dog, German Shepherds can be prone to canine hip dysplasia (CHD), which in turn can cause pain, arthritis and ultimately be debilitating. As my dog ages, her joint health has definitely become more of a concern. It’s important for Georgia to get on a regular glucosamine routine now for long-term joint health.
I have started giving Georgia Nutri-Vet Hip & Joint Biscuits, which contain 500mg of glucosamine per biscuit. The glucosamine will help maintain normal, healthy cartilage to keep her joints healthy. These peanut butter flavored biscuits look just like a regular dog biscuit treat. When she’s chomping into it, Georgia doesn’t even know how good it really is for her!
Georgia has always had a sensitive stomach and it’s taken some trial and error over the years to figure out foods that are best for her. I’ve begin to supplement her regular food with Nutri-Vet Pre and Probiotic Soft Chews to help support healthy digestion and gut health. They provide immune system support and promote proper healthy stools as well. I take probiotics for my gut health so why shouldn’t Georgia take dog probiotics for her? She gobbles these cheese and liver flavored morsels up like a dog treat!
For my cats, I just started offering them Treatibles Extra Strength Soft Chewables for Cats. With 3 mg of organic full spectrum hemp CBD extract per chewable, these treats help with anxiety, aid in digestion and more. These CBD for pets chewables contain omega-3 fatty acids as well! Knickers isn’t a fan of car rides so I’m hoping these will help ease his travel stress and anxiety. These heart-shaped chewables have a salmon flavor that the cats love. In addition to helping to calm your pet, they also help to support joints and the immune system. Not just for cats, these chewables are also available for dogs. Use code TRTBBCAT15 to save 15% off these soft chewables, through December 31, 2021.
Staying Fresh & Clean
Like with our ears, wax can build up in your dog’s ears as well. Vet’s Best Ear Relief Finger Wipes are pre-moistened wipes that make it easy to gently wipe away any dirt and wax buildup in your dog’s ears. These dog ear cleaner wipes contain natural ingredients such as witch hazel, soothing aloe vera and tea tree oil.
Be sure you only use on your dog and not on cats as these wipes contain tea tree oil which is poisonous to cats.
When it comes to teeth, your dogs dental hygiene is very important to their overall health! Vet’s Best Enzymatic Toothpaste for Dogs supports your dogs dental hygiene when you are in between cleanings. Formulated by veterinarians, this toothpaste gently cleanses plaque, tarter and other buildup on your dog’s teeth. It contains natural ingredients to effectively clean and soothe, including aloe vera, neem oil, baking soda, enzymes and grapefruit seed extract. The toothpaste comes with a specially designed dog toothbrush that is shaped to fit your dog’s teeth.
Pet Care and Home Care
Every pet owner knows that accidents in the home happen. My rugs and flors have seen it all- dog and cat urine, vomit, and feces. The Simple Solution Extreme Pet Stain and Odor Remover has been a life saver… well, at least a fabric-saver! The professional strength pet cleaning formula targets these pet messes, breaking down the enzymes to eliminate any stains and odors. It can be used on pretty much all fabric surfaces- carpets, cushions, pet beds and anything else that might end up as the messy target.
I don’t want to spend hours scrubbing away stains, I need something that works quickly. As an ‘extreme’ stain and odor remover, this is 3x’s stronger than regular cleaners and gets the job done easily, quickly and safely. It also helps prevent repeat markings!
I recently included this in my gift guide for dogs post!

These are great ideas and very important to keep your pets healthy! I don’t have a pet at this moment but someday I would like to have one and will keep these tips in mind! 😊
I need to get my hands on those CBD chewables for my kitty. She has major anxiety and now that she has to be in a cone long-term, she could use something extra to help soothe her. Great suggestions here!
Oof! My dog isn’t necessarily a large breed (he’s a 50-pound hound mix and technically classified as a “medium” dog), but I’m constantly worried about his joints as he gets older. I’ll have to look into getting him those NutriVet biscuits! He’ll love those!
We dont have any pets right now but will for sure keep these in mind for the future!
We don’t have any pets, but I have a similar carpet cleaner for potty-training haha. Maybe we’ll get a pet when the kids are older.
