For me, warmer weather means getaways and I always have to bring along a good book to read! I’m sharing four vacation books that are perfect to stash in your bag for your next spring or summer getaway. From feel-good beach reads to suspenseful thrillers, at least one of these books from Harper Collins best-selling authors is sure to strike your fancy.
Keep reading to dive into each>>
Summer at the Cape
A must for your next getaway, Summer at the Cape by RaeAnne Thayne will have you enthralled. This novel shares the story of Cami, who as an older sister to twin sisters has always felt like the odd sister out. Upon her parents divorce as a teen, Cami opted to move across the country with her pragamatic father, leaving behind her sisters and mother in the cape. When tragedy strikes 20 years later, Cami is urged to return to the cape by her outspoken- free-spirited mother. Cami is forced to reexamine her relationships with her family all while untangling a web of complications.
I can always count on Thayne to deliver emotional yet inspiring and uplifting stories centering on strong women. As someone working on strengthening my own relationship with my sister, this theme speaks closely to me. I’m looking forward to cracking this book open and getting swept away to the cape.
The Summer Getaway
The Summer Getaway by Susan Mallery is that quintessential indulgent beach read! It’s perfect for those looking for an escape and to truly enjoy their “me time”. The story centers on Robyn, a single mom looking to take a break from her grown children’s drama. She heads off to Santa Barbara in California to visit her free-spirited aunt… yet the rest of her family soon follows interrupting her plans for some serious ‘me time’.
I have read several Mallery books and have always enjoyed them. These fiction novels are light-hearted and feel-good and truly offer that escapist moment. As a Californian, I love that the bulk of this story takes place in Santa Barbara, which is absolutely beautiful and the perfect summer beach setting. I can’t wait to dive in!
An Honest Lie
Just released this week, An Honest Lie by Tarryn Fisher will have you engrossed from the very first page. It focuses on main character Rainy, who has joined a woman’s group in her remote Tiger Mountains community. She is invited along on a girls’ trip to Las Vegas, bringing her back to dark memories of the last time she was in Vegas. She reluctantly agrees to go where drinks, secret spilling and shenanigans are sure to be plenty. Things take a twisted turn when one of the women, Braithe, fails to show the next day. Rainy then receives a text from Braithe’s phone, only it’s not Braithe– someone has her… but who they really want Rainy.
The book toggles between the now and then, with a peek into Rainy’s past as a teen when she and her mom were pulled into a cult. I always love a good cult documentary and book so this novel was right up my alley. In true Fisher form there’s a twist… Rainy might not be as meek as originally led to believe.
I read this in a couple of nights and enjoyed it, a definite solid 4-stars. The only thing that bugged me a bit were some of the character names– Braithe, Taured, and others. Some I wasn’t even sure I was pronouncing correctly! Other than that it was a story that kept me sucked in and wanting more to find out how it was going to end.
The Wrong Victim
The Wrong Victim by Allison Brennan is another book just released this week and is part of her Quinn & Costa suspense series. However, you don’t have to read the others in the series to follow the story. When a bomb explodes on a chartered boat tour in the San Juan Islands killing everyone aboard, the entire town is shocked. Was this an act of terrorism or was someone targeted? Special agent Matt Costa and detective Kara Quinn team up to uncover the truth before it happens again.
Brennan is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author so you know this book is going to be good. If you love a good suspenseful crime novel, this is definitely a must-read!
Each of these vacation books is perfect to take along on your next getaway. Or, with Mother’s Day just around the corner, a great gift idea for the mom, sister or special friend in your life.
Which of these vacation books would you most want to read?
