It’s no secret that as we age, fine lines and wrinkles start becoming more prominent. Did you know that after the age of 20, your skin produces 1% less collagen each year? Collagen is essential to keeping skin plump and hydrated! As I start approaching 40, it’s becoming more important to incorporate more aging targeted products into my preventative skincare routine.

When it comes to a preventative skincare routine, you want to keep an eye out for these ingredients:
- Retinol
- Bakuchiol
- Hyaluronic Acid
- Antioxidants
- Peptides
Let’s dive into some products that I recommend featuring these ingredients that should be added to your daily (and nightly!) anti-aging skin routine:
Preventative Skincare Essentials
Since I have some acne marks and wanted to get a jump start on preventing fine lines and wrinkles, I recently added a retinol into my skincare routine. Retinol assists in increasing skin’s collagen production. It helps to plump and smooth skin, making it especially beneficial in your preventative skincare routine. It is also beneficial for those with acne to help with smoothing acne scars. Depending on your skin needs, you can use prescription retinol or find it in everyday skin products.
Since my skin is on the sensitive side and traditional retinols can be irritating, I wanted to ease into it with the Versed Press Restart Gentle Retinol Serum. This serum features a blend of bakuchiol with encapsulated retinol and arophira, another retinol alternative. It is very gentle on skin, has a creamy texture and I find that my skin has felt smoother since starting use two months ago. I find that this is a good retinol product to start with and get skin used to before using a more potent retinol.
Be sure to use retinol only at night and make sure to wear SPF during the day as skin will become more susceptible to sun damage.
The Dr. Zenovia Bakuchiol Hydrating Cleanser has become a favorite of mine! Bakuchiol is a plant-derived oil that is a natural alternative to retinol. Retinol AKA vitamin A can be irritating and while bakuchiol may not be as potent, it is less irritating to skin. I like that this clinical-grade cleanser is pH balanced and offers a really good cleanse while hydrating the skin. It’s very gentle on my sensitive skin and didn’t leave it feeling stripped or dry.
Moisturizing Must-Haves
If there is just one retinol product you start with, it should be an eye cream. The delicate eye area is most susceptible to fine lines, including crows feet. The Dr. Zenovia Retinol Recovery Eye Cream not only contains a retinol blend to stimulate collagen production, but antioxidant-rich green tea for quicker cell turnover and caffeine to help de-puff the under eye area. This cream is excellent to hydrate and firm the eyes for younger-looking and more radiant skin!
When it comes to moisturizer, I recommend seeking out a hydrating creamy moisturizer with retinol alternative ingredient bakuchiol, such as the Farm Rx Bakuchiol Cream from Avon. This vegan formula contains natural plant-based ingredients, including antioxidant-rich botanical extracts along with bakuchiol. This moisturizer is very creamy and luxe feeling and the non-irritating formula is perfect for those with sensitive skin.
Hydrate Dehydrated Skin
Has your skin been looking dull and fine lines have become more noticeable? Unfortunately, your skin may be dehydrated which can lead to accelerated signs of aging. Along with drinking plenty of water, you want to use products that lock in moisture. The Derma-E Ultra-Hydrating Dewy Skin Serum will not only instantly revitalize skin, but supports long-term moisture barrier protection as well. This natural-based serum is formulated with hyaluronic acid, ultra-hydrating squalane and antioxidant-rich green tea extract. It gives skin a luminous, healthy radiance while delivering some major hydration benefits. It’s the perfect serum to apply during the day and then again at night in your preventative skincare routine.

So many great finds! I can’t wait until I’m no longer pregnant and can go back to products like these. I miss my retinols lol!
The only brand that I was familiar with here was Derma E, so I clearly need to educate myself a little more on the other products you shared. I’m excited to check them out. Anti-aging/preventative skincare is so important, especially during your 20s/30s!
I like the sound of the eye cream.
